Dorothy Dandridge

Dorothy Dandridge was an American actress and singer who broke barriers in Hollywood by becoming the first African-American woman to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Carmen Jones (1954). She was also known for her roles in Porgy and Bess (1959) and Island in the Sun (1957). Dandridge faced racism and discrimination throughout her career, but she remains an icon in Hollywood history.
