Edwin Maxwell was an American character actor who appeared in more than 180 films between 1916 and 1948. He often played upper-class, pompous characters, and was known for his distinctive voice and delivery. Some of his notable roles include Mr. Peavey in the film adaptation of The Great Gildersleeve (1942) and Mr. Waterman in Bringing Up Baby (1938).
