El Hedi ben Salem was an Algerian actor best known for his role as Ali in the 1975 film "Fear Eats the Soul." He was discovered by director Rainer Werner Fassbinder while working as a taxi driver in Berlin. Despite his success, he struggled with alcoholism and died by suicide in 1977.
