Fay Bainter was an American actress who had a successful career in both theatre and film. She received two Academy Award nominations for Best Actress and won the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 1938 film "Jezebel." Bainter also served as the first female president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences from 1937 to 1939.
