Georges Méliès was a French filmmaker and magician who pioneered many special effects techniques in early cinema, including stop-motion animation and multiple exposures. He directed over 500 films between 1896 and 1914, including the iconic science fiction film A Trip to the Moon (1902). He is considered one of the most important figures in the development of cinema.
