Henry Brown
Henry Brown was a formerly enslaved man who became known for his daring escape to freedom inside a wooden box. In 1849, he shipped himself in a crate from Virginia to Pennsylvania, spending 27 hours constrained in a space barely larger than a coffin. After his arrival, Brown became an abolitionist speaker, using his escape as a powerful tool to argue for the end of slavery.
