Hugo Haas was a Czech-born actor, director, and screenwriter who worked in Hollywood during the 1940s and 1950s. He starred in and directed several films known for their dramatic and often pessimistic themes, such as "The Blue Gardenia" and "Pickup". He died in 1968 at the age of 67.
