Janet Gaynor was a popular American film actress and leading lady during the silent film era, and also won the first Academy Award for Best Actress in 1929 for her performances in three films: 7th Heaven, Street Angel, and Sunrise. She continued acting in films until the 1930s, and later TV appearances.
