Juzo Itami was a Japanese actor, screenwriter, and film director known for his satirical films that mocked Japanese society's corruption and hypocrisy. He was born in 1933 and began his career in the entertainment industry as an actor before shifting to directing in the 1980s. Itami's works included "Tampopo," "A Taxing Woman," and "The Funeral." He died in 1997 under mysterious circumstances, which some speculate to be related to his criticism of the Yakuza.
