Kirk Hammett is an American musician and songwriter, best known as the lead guitarist for the heavy metal band Metallica. He joined the band in 1983 and has remained with them since, contributing to numerous hit albums and helping to shape the sound of modern metal. Hammett is considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
