Mamie Smith

Mamie Smith (1883 - 1946) was an African-American vaudeville singer, dancer, and actress who became the first Black singer to record blues music in 1920, with her hit song "Crazy Blues." She later starred in several movies and continued to perform until her death. Smith paved the way for other Black women to enter the music industry.
