Michael Cimino was an American film director, screenwriter, and producer. He is best known for directing the controversial and financially disastrous film "Heaven's Gate" in 1980. Despite this setback, he also directed several acclaimed films such as "The Deer Hunter" and "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot". He passed away in 2016.
