Ronnie Van Zant

Ronnie Van Zant (1948-1977) was the lead vocalist and primary lyricist of the Southern rock band, Lynyrd Skynyrd. Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, Van Zant formed Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1964 with friends from school. The band rose to fame in the 1970s with hits such as "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free Bird". Van Zant died in a plane crash in 1977 at the age of 29.
