Ruby Dee was an American actress, poet, playwright, and activist. She was best known for her performances in A Raisin in the Sun, Do the Right Thing, and American Gangster. Throughout her career, she was also a leading civil rights activist, working alongside her husband Ossie Davis. Dee was awarded numerous awards for her work in both film and activism, including the Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
