Sergey Bondarchuk was a Soviet and Russian actor and film director known for his role in the war film "War and Peace". He also directed the film adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's novel, for which he won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Bondarchuk was a prominent figure in Russian cinema until his death in 1994.
