Sidney Poitier was an actor, film director, and author, born on February 20, 1927, in Miami, Florida. He was the first black actor to win an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in the 1963 film "Lilies of the Field". Poitier also directed several successful films, including "Stir Crazy" and "Ghost Dad".
