Smiley Burnette was a character actor, singer, and songwriter who is best known for his comedic roles in western films and TV shows of the 1930s and 1940s. He often played the sidekick to popular cowboy stars such as Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. Burnette also wrote many popular western songs, including "Ridin' the Range" and "Steamboat Bill."
