Stanislav Petrov
Stanislav Petrov was a Soviet military officer who is credited with preventing a nuclear war by correctly identifying a false missile attack warning. His actions in 1983 were instrumental in averting a catastrophe and he was recognized as a hero both in Russia and internationally. Petrov passed away in 2017 at the age of 77.
